The 4Cs of Diamonds

The 4Cs of Diamonds, from a Certified Diamontologist

Britne Jenke Certified Diamontologist

Why a course on the 4Cs of diamonds?

Well, I’ve worked in many industries in my career as a learning professional. I’m a lifelong learner, and I’ve picked up a lot of random knowledge. There have been times where I’ve had to become a subject matter expert myself on a new topic. I’ve learned that without a certain level of expertise, it’s challenging to effectively design and develop training for your audience. In this case, my learners were jewelry salespeople who knew all about the 4Cs of diamonds. So I needed to have the same foundation that they had and become an expert myself.

While working as an instructional designer for a large jewelry retailer, I completed an independent study program through the Diamond Council of America (DCA) to become a Certified Diamontologist. The DCA is a not-for-profit organization that offers distance education courses and certifications in diamonds, gemstones and jewelry sales.

eLearning Course: The 4Cs of Diamonds

The 4Cs of Diamonds eLearning CourseWhile working at this company, I wanted to demonstrate to my team what kinds of training we could develop to take advantage of new technology. Our salespeople were using tablets and kiosks in their stores for sales, that we could use to deploy training. So, as an introduction to eLearning and Storyline, I took what I learned from my Diamontology studies and created this example course about the 4Cs of diamonds.

This course covers cut, color, clarity, and carat with detailed images and descriptions. The course material includes knowledge checks, interactive learning features, a custom glossary, and of course, a sales presentation scenario.
